According to The Spruce, bird mating may occur several times prior to nesting.  The actual sex act can last less than a second.  There are many posts on Feathers and Fuzz about bird parenting, but this is the first time I witnessed an actual mating occur.

Jewelry, perfume and heels? Not this chick! 

Just a tantalizing worm, and a flash of the tail, was all it took to get her mate’s attention.  Mr. Wren was a bit clueless at first, but when he lands on the feeder and observes his mate, one can almost see the light bulb go off in his head.

Bluebird pair starts nest, but disagrees on furnishings!

Why any of the birds think it's time to start a family is beyond me. It's cold and it's still raining ... and raining. Nonetheless, the resident Bluebird pair has made the decision to start nest building. As we have seen in a prior post, the male does have his own views of how the nest material should be arranged.  He is off to an early start this year ... disputing the choice of the first piece of grass.
